Large vintage matchbook cover collection consisting of three albums/binders containing hundreds of matchcovers spanning multiple decades. Most appear to date from approximately the 1930s through the 1960s, with many early examples marked “Close Cover Before Striking.”
One album includes numerous illustrated covers featuring Golden Gate International Exposition (San Francisco), Chicago Century of Progress World’s Fair, travel destinations, ships, ferries, bridges, and tourism advertising. Also includes a variety of commercial advertising covers and regional businesses.
Another album focuses heavily on American advertising matchcovers including drug stores, department stores, banks, oil companies, service businesses, and regional retailers. Many covers feature striking graphic designs typical of mid-century advertising and represent businesses from across multiple states.
A third album contains international casino and gaming themed matchbooks, featuring foreign casino advertising and travel-related gaming establishments. These are a popular specialty category among matchbook and casino memorabilia collectors.
