CA-23. MAS France / Golden State Arms Santa Fe Model 1949 / MAS Mle 1936 rifle, caliber/gauge unknown. Serial number FG51601. J.C. Higgins recoil pad buttstock.

MAS France 1936 rifle "sporterized" to Santa Fe Model 1949 for civilian market by Golden State Arms. Mixed parts are from arsenal reworks or assembly, or modification from original military configuration for the civilian hunting / sporting market. 

Unable to determine caliber. Marked as the original French 7.5x54mm, but this rifle was possibly a custom modification and Golden State did not routinely stamp a new caliber on customizations.
